Ernests mows down Vliegen in Queen’s

Ernests scored a milestone of sorts by defeating Kristof Vliegen in the first round of Queen’s to win his first ATP-level match on grass.

With five aces and a first-serve percentage of 68%, Ernests’ serve never was under serious threat as Vliegen could not force even a single break point in the entire match. The Belgian himself only yielded a single break in each set – at 4-all in the first set and 5-all in the second.

After finally establishing a lead of 6*-5 in the second set, Ernests needed four match points on his own serve before finally closing out the match, 6-4 7-5.

He now awaits the winner of the match between Arnaud Clément and Andreas Seppi to determine his second-round opponent.
