Ernests and Andis Juška nose Latvia ahead
Ernests and his compatriot, Andis Juška, have cleaned up the first two points of their Davis Cup tie against Bulgaria by defeating Todor Enev and Tihomir Grozdanov.
Juška drew first blood for Latvia, despite dropping the opening set in a tiebreak before fighting back to secure the rubber in four sets.
Ernests eschewed the scenic route and dispatched of the 767th-ranked Enev in straight sets.
Latvia needs one more victory to qualify for the third round against Slovenia or Lithuania, and the doubles rubber today may prove to be decisive.
Fronting the doubles for Latvia will be Ernests and Deniss Pavlovs, who teamed up to win the Sarajevo Challenger in 2007.
Pavlovs is the second highest-ranked Latvian player but was benched in the singles in favour of Andis Juška after he reportedly strained his ankle in practice.

Good for Andis and Ernests. Ernests won in 3 straight set. Only first set was tough after that 6:2 6:2. Hope he starts to get in form.Go Latvia

for me i’m ok now thanks,i also didn’t saw his 1st round match but from what i’ve read in internet he played well and i was really happy to know that but unfortunatlly he lost to Murray but now he just won the 2nd DC match so so happy for that.
well done!!! we don`t have to get so excited though because the other guy is ranked 767 but this is good to increase his confidence. now one more victory and we are in third round. i mean they are not me, its because i fell like one of them now. im very happy and this is good for ernests. like i said well done!!!

Slovenia has defeated Lithuania and that means that 3rd round of Davis Cup will be played in Jurmala!!! I WILL BE THERE in September !!!!!! HOOORAAAAY !!!

Probably not, maybe Juska and Zguns will play singles instead.
Why wouldn’t ernie play?
If Ernests and Pavlovs win in the doubles today, then Latvia would’ve already won the tie with 3 points. Bulgaria wouldn’t be able to overtake them even if the hosts win the last 2 singles rubbers. So Ernests wouldn’t need to play.
Dzelde usually fields the last 2 guys on the team in the dead singles rubbers if the tie has been won and Ernie’s playing on hard court next week anyway.. He doesn’t need the match practice on clay.
